Details

1. Arrive 20 minutes before your session starts, to allow for check-in and rental skates.

2. Come to the Iceplex lobby and follow the sign directing JSIS families to the Starbucks Rink. We will have a table at the Starbucks rink for checking-in. You do not need to stand in line at the lobby for registration.

FAQs

What if we don't know how to ice skate?

The Kraken Iceplex offers walkers and seals (a literal big plastic seal to push) that are SUPER helpful in keeping skaters upright, even if it is their very first time on the ice.

This year, these skate aids are being rented by the PTSA for everyone to share. Please only use one skate aid per family, and if you start your skating session with a skate aid, please plan to give someone else a turn with it halfway through the session.

Most people in the rink are learning how to skate, so if you decide to go for it, you will not be alone in learning!

What should we wear?

Layers, it can get warm in there after a few loops around the rink. The Kraken also recommends avoiding thick socks.

Families are welcome to bring and wear helmets (hockey, bike, skateboard, ski), wrist guards, elbow pads, padded biking shorts or other protective wear that will make you feel safe on the ice.

Will there be food?

The Kraken Iceplex has a concession stand with pizza slices, popcorn and other snacks and beverages for sale.

There is a Starbucks on the upper level offering a full coffee and snack selection.

The 32 Bar & Grill opens at 11am serving family-friendly pub food.

Outside food & beverages are not allowed.

Food will not be provided by PTSA.

If I don't want to skate, can I still bring my kid?

Only skaters need to pay, so if your student is fine skating on their own, you do not need an additional ticket for yourself.

We encourage adults and family members who are not skating to bring board games or cards to play and socialize with other JSIS families.

Is there Parking?

Lots of parking space in what used to be the Northgate mall. The first 3 hours are free.

Are there scholarships available?

Yes. If you need a scholarship for skating fees, please contact Principal Sam. sjabrams@seattleschools.org

If I don't buy a ticket now, can I buy one at the event?

No. Additional skaters cannot be added the day of the event, so if you think you might want to or need to skate with your JSIS student, buy a ticket for yourself as well!

I purchased a ticket but can't attend, what should I do?

We encourage you to try to make arrangements to sell/give your tickets directly to another JSIS family.

The JSIS PTSA will be offering a refund on ticket purchases if requested by midnight, Friday, December 13, 2024.
