Class Reps

JSIS PTSA Class Representative Volunteers

Help build connection and community at JSIS!

What is a JSIS PTSA Class Rep?

The JSIS PTSA Class Rep is a parent that volunteers to be their class “lead” and liaison amongst families and between parents and PTSA. They assist in connecting parents to each other, as well as to PTSA announcements, initiatives, calendar events, and support the class directory. Duties will vary based on the grade of the classroom and the needs. You can anticipate spending roughly 2-4 hours per month of volunteer time.

The objective is to foster community and communication to enhance student and families experience. Class Reps build a sense of community among parents by facilitating connections, encouraging collaboration, and promoting a positive school community.

If you have questions please reach out to: classrepcoordinator@jsisptsa.org

Orientation for Class Reps is October 13th at 5:30pm in the JSIS library.

General Duties

The general duties for a JSIS PTSA Class Rep include:

  • Encourage families to sign-up for the PTSA directory.  Create PDF of class roster from directory & send to parents.

  • Primarily use WhatsApp class chats to communicate with parents.  Ensure as many parents as possible are subscribed to the class WhatsApp.

  • Suggest play dates, community events, and other opportunities to class / families.

  • Stay up to speed on PTSA announcements and events to help point parents to the right people/resource as needed (there is no expectation to know everything). Attend PTSA Board meetings, when possible.

  • Relay essential PTSA announcements, reminders, and information about activities, fundraising, events, and volunteer opportunities to parents (ie: General Meetings, Students First Campaign, Spirit Store, etc)

  • Encourage parents to sign-up to volunteer for events such as - Monster Mash, Japan Night, La Fiesta, etc.

  • When possible reinforce school communications to ensure important information gets out to class parents.

  • Connect with the Class Rep Coordinator (PTSA Board Member) and other Class Rep parents. Make connections across grade / other language classes.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE:  For now, this is not an official class liaison between the homeroom teacher/ staff and parents/ families.  The role may evolve in that way in the future, but for now is just focused on community and PTSA relations.
